For my career PowerPoint presentation, I had to find out ways that people would be able to get into Publications editing. I did this by visiting the careers database on the Connexions website. I found out that there are many different routes which can be taken including: Degree’s with publishing options, a course in journalism, A-levels and GCSE’s and many more. Ethics refers to the appropriateness of your behaviour in relation to the rights of those who become the subject of your work, or are affected by it.

There are three subsections of ethical issues:
1. Firstly, thetical issues which arise during the design stage and when seeking initial access.
2. Second, ethical issues during the data collection stage, when we will examine particular issues related to different methods.
3. Third, ethical issues related to the analysis and reporting stages.

Last week two film makers came into college to talk about their experiences. They bought along with them the person who is responsible for getting their films involved in festivals all over the world and advertising their work. She also updates their website regularly. The two film makers were brothers, Ben and Chris Blaine.
Whilst at the college, they made a presentation to us which included some information about their experiences in the film making industry. They told us the following things:

*They have been in the business for 10 years.
*Their first successful short film was called ‘Free Speech’ which Danny Dyer acted in.
*Life experiences and imagination help to inspire them when making a short film.
*When asked a question about raising funding for short films, the brothers replied that they had been lucky to inherit some money from their aunt that passed away. They said anyone interested in making a short film would have to apply for funding from the Government, which they admitted can be a very lenghty, tedios process.
*The Blaine brothers gave us some advice, they said to always keep in conact with people you have met and keep up appearences, this way it is likely that you will get noticed by people and so you could be provided with more job opportunities.

I will use some of the above information as my primary source for my assignment about a Bafta nominated short film, Yellow.

I feel that if the visit from the Blaine Brothers was to have happened earlier on in the course, I would have been able to take what they said into account when making my short film ‘The conversation’. I would have definitely changed the script more by making it more relevant to me and my past experiences as the Blaine Brothers said that this is what they tend to do when considering making any short film. Also, I feel that this would have made me feel more positive about completing it to the best of my ability, and so there is a high possibility that if I was to re-complete the assignment, I would achieve more than I did with my first try.

I’m thinking there’s a high chance that Avatar will win the award for best film of 2009, and in my opinion this would be much deserved… Brilliant film!
